Mariam Awad Healed of Cancer

Mariam Assaf Awad, originally from Syria and living in Hammana, had three operations for cancer between 1963 and 1965. None of them stopped the disease, which then reached her tonsils, causing great pain and difficulty swallowing.

She refused further treatment and asked Saint Charbel either to heal her or to give her strength to bear it. One evening she prayed, "You who are the great saint who healed the blind and the crippled... when I am healed, I will go to your shrine to thank you."

The next morning she was completely healed. She kept her promise and went to Annaya to give thanks. Her cure in 1967 was accepted as the miracle for Charbel's canonisation in 1977.
